Jennifer
Toulmin graduated from the Randolph
Academy for the Performing Arts in 2000. She
trained professionally in ballet from age 4 to age 22 (at
25 hours a week since the time she was 10 years old). In
England, Jenny is an Associate of the Royal Academy of
Dancing and holds an Advanced RAD
Ballet. She also holds Advanced Certificates in Modern Dance
& National Dancing, and in Intermediate Tap. Her professional
training in classical and contemporary acting began at age
14 with
coaching from Dia Frid. She went on to work with Mark Wilson,
Ron Singer, Michael Kelly, Glen Peloso and Kalo Gow. Jennifer
has trained
classically
in voice since she was 17. She is currently training
in Coloratura with Jayne Smiley.
Jennifer
was selected by the Canadian Government as
one of six Canadians from across the country to represent
Canada at
the World Exposition
2005 in Japan. In 2004, she filmed a short
documentary on her life for the project. The film is currently
being
shown to an average of 20,000 visitors daily in the Canadian
Pavilion at the Expo site in Japan. In April, Jennifer was sent on a
tour
of the Maritimes to speak to students about being a Canadian artist. She
returned from Japan in May where she performed for the Japanese public for
her first time.
Jennifer's favourite theatre credits include: performing SOPHIE in the Original
Cast and the US Tour of Mamma Mia!; four seasons
as ANNE
in Anne of Green Gables at the Charlottetown
Festival,
and the American
premiere of
the same production at the Shubert
Theatre, Connecticut in October 2005; LIESL in The Sound of
Music at the Neptune Theater; LUCY
in Richard Ouzounian and Marek Norman's Dracula: A Chamber Musical;MARY
in The Secret Garden; CINDERELLA in Cinderella;
ISABEL in Mr.Scrooge;
JULIET in The Capulet's Ball and
CISSY in the World Premiere of A
Blue Castle.
Jennifer has performed in five Benefits in 2005 alone, including an evening
with Olivia Chow, Jack Layton and David French in Toronto for Out
of the Cold and The Homelessness Action Group.
She has had the honour
of welcoming
her Imperial Highness Princess Takamoto of Japan, to her Opening Night performance
of Anne of Green Gables in 2004. In May, Jennifer
joined her Imperial Highness once again for a luncheon in Aichi, Japan. The
actress has been a part of three Granted Wishes for terminally ill children
and the Wish Foundation of Canada, by meeting with the children and their families
after performances of Anne of Green Gables. Jennifer has
appeared in many Canadian news publications, including CBC and CTV news, CBC
Radio One, Sounds Like Canada, and a feature story for 'Eastlink
Magazine' on the Eastlink network. She has appeared in over ten Japanese news
publications.
Jennifer appears in an episode of Canadian Geographic Kids in
early 2006. She will also appear in the November issue of WISH -
a new Canadian National magazine for women.
Jennifer is a full member of the Canadian
Actors' Equity Association (EQUITY),
and the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television
and Radio Artists (ACTRA).
